East Germany
This East German overcoat from the 1970s–1980s carries forward a design lineage rooted in early 20th-century military tailoring. The double-breasted silhouette, structured wool construction, and functional details reflect principles established during the WWII era and refined through Cold War–era Eastern European manufacturing. East German military and civilian outerwear of this period maintained strict adherence to durability and formal aesthetics, drawing from both German military traditions and Soviet-influenced pragmatism. The result is a coat built to last—a hallmark of vintage military-inspired design.
The black collar provides sharp contrast against the gray wool body, creating a formal, authoritative silhouette. The double-breasted front and quarter belt at the back emphasize structure and movement control—classic elements of military overcoat design. Aluminum buttons replace brass, a practical choice reflecting Cold War–era material availability and manufacturing standards. The overall aesthetic balances utilitarian precision with understated elegance.
100% thick wool delivers exceptional warmth and weather resistance, while the substantial 5 lb weight ensures the coat holds its shape through years of wear. The aluminum button front offers durability without corrosion. The quarter belt provides subtle waist definition and allows adjustment for layering. This is a coat engineered for function—ideal for winter travel, formal occasions, or anyone seeking authentic vintage military heritage with proven longevity.
